Echor Chingri with Coconut Milk Recipe | Jackfruit shrimp's | Bengali Echor Recipe

How to make traditional Echor Chingri Recipe


One of the most popular summer recipes in Bangladesh and West Bengal is Echor Chingri. Echor Chingri, a traditional summer recipe which is renowned for its taste and texture, mixed with the amalgamation of jackfruit and fried prawns in spicy onion gravy. Echor Chingri is Bengali pronunciation which means Echor is Raw Jackfruit and Chingri is Prawn or Shrimp. However, this is with coconut milk which makes it more unique.




INGREDIENTS FOR ECHOR CHINGRI:

  •   1 kg Echor/Jackfruit
  •   300 gm Shrimp/prawn
  •   Coconut Milk 500g(must)
  •   2 Medium Size Onion slice
  •   Sliced green chili 7/8 pieces
  •   Ginger Paste 1 Tablespoon
  •   Garlic Paste 1 ½ Tablespoon
  •   Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  •   Cumin Powder 1 ½ Tablespoon
  •   Slate to taste
  •   Red chili powder 2 Tablespoon
  •   Dry Roasted Cumin Powder 1-1½ Teaspoon
  •   Add  Cooking oil


INSTRUCTIONS For Echor Chingri with Coconut Milk Recipe:

  • Before you start cutting the echor/Jackfruit, make sure that you rub or apply oil in your palm. Now peel off the skin and cut into small cubes. Alternatively you can also purchase packaged Jackfruit from the grocery store.
  • Heat a pan with Cooking Oil & add sliced onion kuchi fry it sometimes.
  • Now it’s time to add all dry spices, such as turmeric powder, red chili powder, and  cumin powder and Slate to taste & mix them well with  Whole Green Chilies.
  • Add Shrimp/chingri with this mixture & Wait for few minutes until the aroma comes out
  • Now add the Jackfruit (echor),and garlic & ginger paste. Mix them well with masala; cook for another 4-5 minutes.
  • Add 500gm Coconut Milk and cover the lid and simmer the heat. Cook for 9-10  minutes, and again add half cup water. Mix properly and cover the lid and simmer the heat.
  • After 6-7 minutes, remove the lid and stir it again.
  • When it becomes a gravy-like consistency, turn off the flame.
  • Now add a little bit of Dry Roasted Cumin Powder.


Now, Enjoy Your Echor Chingri  / Jackfruit Shrimp Curry is ready to be served. Serve it with steam rice.
